Identifying hidden telecom and network cost...path to financial stewardship!
Almost six years ago, I stumbled upon the monthly telephone bill of a large organization. It was a huge surprise! The bill suggested that the organization was quite large, but in reality the company only had a few hundred employees. Intriguingly, the bill was being paid monthly by the business department without any review or questions!
I knew something could be done with this exorbitant monthly telecommunication cost and requested a copy of the bill.
Several days, weeks of review, analysis, and research of the expenses allowed me to locate savings of approximately $230,000 annually. It was as if we had uncovered hidden jewels among seemingly routine bills.
There are many organizations and businesses unaware of hidden expenses and unused communication infrastructure investments. So how can companies and institutions dive into financial stewardship in IT operations? I know several of my friends and colleagues in technology management are asked to reduce the budget and operating cost in their respective IT departments. Presidents and CBOs are always looking for new opportunities to grow their business and increase the bottomline. If you are a Tech executive, do you really know what technology assets you have acquired over the years? Have you had time to check what percentage of technology is used purposefully? Do you have a process in place to measure IT performance and ROI?
From my years of experience, I understand that IT executives are always busy and have a plateful of things to do everyday. It is hard to focus on achieving high operational efficiency when changes are constantly happening in the organization at an alarming speed.
Therefore, you need a trusted technology partner to collaborate with and dive deep to find such efficiencies and cost savings.
